Another recent commission is a replica Sam Maloof Horn Arm Chair made in Ziricote wood.
This is a strikingly beautiful very dark almost black wood with wonderful unique grain pattern. It is extremely rare and the timber had to be sourced from San Francisco. I photographed the original in the Renwick Gallery in Washington DC. As the Ziricote is so rare and expensive, I first made a practice chair from some Walnut before tackling the real thing. Luckily it turned out well and this chair resides near Armagh, Northern Ireland.
