Museum Quality, Individually Tailored
Rocking chairs are by far my favorite projects. The chairs are in the tradition of the late Sam Maloof. The design has been developed to incorporate a coopered vertical grain headrest and flexible back braces providing superb lumbar support and comfort.
Each chair is of museum quality and can be made in almost any hardwood of your choice and is individually tailored to you size. On the underside of the seat is engraved my makers mark, wood species, chair number, date of manufacture and by whom commissioned. A verse or quotation of your choice can also be engraved.
Other options include choice of contrasting wood on the front or back of the back braces, shape of headrest and number of accent strips in the rockers. A short phrase can be carved on top of the seat in front of the back braces.
Each chair is sanded to 2000 grit, sealed with shellac and finished with Osmo oil and buffed to a high sheen with wax. The entire process takes at least 40 hours and often longer for difficult woods.
